So this evening me and my brother and our friends went to PLAY! And I have one thing to say about it, it was AMAZING!
Ok my brother and I we're riding with one of our friends to go, and then I had a call from my friend, Prophet, asking if we could pick him up. It's kind of funny, he bought his tickets the day of the concert. So we pick him up, and we drive to Ft. Worth. All I can say is that we at least looped around and area twice in downtown, and I think we almost ran over some pedestrians that were crossing the street. So we finally found a parking spot within walking distance of the Bass Hall, and it's $5 to park. While we were walking we saw a couple of people carrying instrument cases, so we thought they must have been part of the orchestra and were late.
Finally we arrive and we enter the lobby, and man was it packed >.< There were people everywhere. Not to mention there we're a couple of people cosplaying as well. They we're mostly Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy VII. I saw two Sephiroths, one Aerith, and one Sora there ^-^;. So we're in the lobby and Rob and I buy the shirts they're selling. Mines a small, but it still looks big on me >.<. Then we go to box office get our tickets and find our seats. Man we we're pretty high up there, just three rows away from the very top row >.<. So we sit and chat until the lights dim and then the concert starts.
The first song that plays is the PLAY! fanfare, which is pretty catchy. The sound is amazing even from where we we're sitting o^-^o. The program book said that they we're going to play Liberi Fatali next, but instead they played Blue Dragon >.< I was a bit disappointed in that. But the next song totally made up for it with Super Mario Bros. Now that was awesome. There were three big screens above the orchestra showing the video games and the audience totally laughed at some parts of Mario. But what was funny was, that one of the members, put on a Mario hat while they were playing.
The next song was from a game called Lost Odyssey, I didn't really know it but the music's pretty and it looked interesting from the video on the screens. There was Sonic which was pretty cool. But one of the songs that stood out for me was the Metal Gear Solid theme *-*. It was so epic! And sounded really nice with the orchestra, not to mention I saw Ocelot on the big screen XD The next songs that they played were Castlevania and Kingdom Hearts which were really neat. I liked how they combined Hikari and Passion together ^-^.
After that there was a short intermission, and I saw a Rude cosplayer talk to the people in the row behind us. I really wanted to ask him for his picture cause he was really good, but I don't think the staff would have appreciated that, not to mention that it wasn't exactly the right time >.<. After the intermission, the orchestra started off with music from Elder Scrolls Oblivion, which was pretty nice. But one of my favorites was the music from Chrono Cross/ Trigger. It was so pretty! =w= and I love the violin parts. World of Warcraft was next which was nice, and then in the program book it was supposed to be Silent Hill, but apparently they had to change it. So instead they played music from Guildwars. I was so disappointed T_T, I really wanted to hear the Theme of Laura or something from Silent Hill. The next was Halo, and then Zelda, which I think everyone loved. And finally the ending song was One-Winged Angel, which sounded pretty epic with the choir singing in it.
When, One-Winged Angel was over, we got an encore and the conductor asked the audience to pick a song to play again. There was a lot of shouting going on, but I think the loudest was the people behind me saying Silent Hill. It finally quieted down, but one guy randomly shouted at the conductor, "Why don't you play some Silent Hill" or something like that. I thought he was going to throw his baton at the guy for saying that ^-^; So in the end they played One-Winged Angel again ^-^;
It was finally over and we had to go back down stairs, and man they have a lot of stairs at the Bass Hall. The lobby was pretty crowded, but I think the biggest traffic jam was the group of cosplayers there. Because everyone crowded around them wanting to take a picture. So we left the Bass Hall and started walking back to the parked car, and surprisingly on the way we saw some of the orchestra members leaving, and one of them told us to have a good night ^-^. So to top the night off we all went to eat at Ihop, mmm..pancakes.
So despite some minor disappointments, PLAY! was really fun and a treat to see. I would recommend anyone to go if they are stopping by your area ^-^.
